The
Gottorp Kunstkammer
In 1751 the Kunstkammer acquired an interesting addition.
During
the Great Northern War (1700-1721) Gottorp Castle
was in 1713 captured by Frederik IV (ruled 1699-1730),
and the collections of the Duke were allotted to the
King. The Kunstkammer and Library were put under seal
in 1725, and orders were issued in 1742 for the collections
to be examined in detail, and registered.
The
collections were later shipped to Copenhagen. The
Gottorp Kunstkammer pieces were packed into 18 crates
and left Schleswig on the 23rd. June 1750 on board
the vessel of captain Johann Johannsen. The bulk of
the collection was delivered to the Royal Kunstkammer
in 1751
